You need to be able to manage not just your own emotions, but those of the people around you. This means being authentic, self-aware, compassionate, and intuitive. It is not easy to stay calm under pressure and to maintain your composure in difficult situations, but it is a critical part of leadership and of executive presence.
Emotional intelligence means being able to read a room, notice the moods and feelings of others around you, and adjust accordingly.
